THE LANGUAGE CENTRE

Location

The Language Centre is located in Building 40 (G40, Faculty of Humanities) on the Zschokkestraße campus.
Building 40 (G40) is situated approximately 550 metres (1/3 mile) to the west of Universitätsplatz.

Travelling by train

If you are travelling to Magdeburg by train, disembark at the Main Railway Station (Hauptbahnhof), and leave via the "City" entrance (at the opposite end of the station to the "ZOB" entrance).

The Language Centre is about 1.5 kilometres (just under a mile) from the Main Railway Station. To make your own way there, leave the station by the "City" entrance, and cross the square to the City Carré shopping centre. Go straight through the shopping centre and leave via Otto-von-Guricke-Straße / Ernst-Reuter-Allee entrance (there should be a crossroads in front of you, and the Deutsche Bank to your right). Here, turn left and cross over the tramline onto Otto-von-Guericke-Straße. Follow the street for about 1 km (2/3 of a mile) until you come to the third street on the left (Am Krökentor). Turn left and go down Am Krökentor until you come to the next street on the left (Zschokkestraße), where you again turn left. You will now come to the main entrance of Building 40 (G40). If you wish to use public transport to reach the Language Centre, leave the station by the "City" entrance. Just outside you will find a tram stop. From here you can several trams to the "Opernhaus" tram stop, which is the nearest to Building 40: Line 1 (in the direction of Neustädter See); Line 4 (in the direction of Messegelände); and Line 6 (in the direction of Herrenkrug).

The nearest tram stop to the Language Centre itself is "Opernhaus", one stop before the main "Universität" tram stop. From the "Opernhaus" tram stop, it is approximately 550 metres to the Language Centre. Once you arrive at the stop, head back a short distance in the direction of the city centre and turn right, past the City Library (Stadtbibliothek Magdeburg) and the School of Music (Konservatorium Georg Philipp Telemann), until you reach Am Krökentor. Go down this street until you come to the traffic lights at Erzbergerstraße. Cross the street and continue down Am Krökentor for about 100 metres, then turn left into Virchowstraße (in front of the residence for senior citizens). After about 200 metres, you will reach the main entrance to Building 40 (G40).

Travelling by car

• via the A2 (coming from Berlin or Hanover), junction 70, "Magdeburg Zentrum." Drive southbound on the Magdeburger Ring (E49/B189). Take the exit "Albert-Vater-Straße." There, take the B1 following the signs for "Dessau, Burg, Zentrum (Osten)".
• via the A14 (coming from Halle/Leipzig), junction 105 "Magdeburg Sudenburg, Zentrum". Drive North on the Magdeburger Ring (B81/B71). Take the exit "Albert-Vater-Straße" (Helmstedt, Dessau, Burg, Zentrum, Olvenstedt). There, follow the B1 towards "Dessau, Burg, Zentrum" (Osten).
• go straight ahead over the next crossroads travelling east. After approximately 400 metres, turn right onto Zschokkestraße (first exit, dropped kerb)
• after about 400 metres, turn right onto Zschokkestraße (first exit, lowered kerb)..
• The car park is situated behind the building.
